A conference by the Greek General Secretariat for Gender Equality on the issue of prostitution as a form of gender-based violence (Athens, 27-4-2018)

The General Secretariat for Gender Equality (GSGE), i.e. the governmental organization in charge of equality between women and men in Greece, organized a successful conference on the issue of prostitution as a form of gender-based violence (Athens, 27-4-2018). More specifically:

 

The Swedish/Nordic model (criminalization of the client) was presented by Ambassador Per-Anders Sunesson from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

The current French legislation on the criminalization of the client and the support of women involved in prostitution was presented by Ms Lorraine Questiaux, Lawyer and active feminist.

 

The German model based on the regularization of prostitution was presented by Ms Marie Merklinger, active feminist and former victim of trafficking.

 

In addition, Ms Joanna Manganara, President of the international NGO International Alliance of Women (the IAW website: http://womenalliance.org/ ) was also among the panellists.

 

It is also underlined that a senior official from the GSGE presented the situation in France with emphasis on the legal model, based on the comprehensive material submitted to the General Secretariat for Gender Equality by the French Authorities (French Ministry and Haut Conseil à l’Egalité).
