EIGE’s new study: Girls in the EU at risk of female genital mutilation (June 2018)
The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) is launching its new study on female genital mutilation in the EU. It estimates the number of girls at risk of female genital mutilation in Belgium, Greece, France, Italy, Cyprus and Malta. The study clearly demonstrates that female genital mutilation is a problem for the EU and we cannot close our eyes to it. It is against the law in all EU countries but many girls remain at risk.
It has released the results in two countries in June: Greece on 22 June and Cyprus on 25 June, 2018. Please see attached its targeted press releases (in English and Greek) that focus on the results of these two countries.
